Alana Wilson
Alana’s residency at The Kilns at Te Horo represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of her practice: a period of deep technical research, material experimentation, and cultural re-grounding as she returns to the Aotearoa New Zealand arts community after more than a decade based in Sydney. Alana says “The opportunity to work within a site so closely connected to New Zealand’s studio ceramics history - particularly in proximity to the legacy of Mirek Smíšek - is significant. It offers an ideal environment in which to extend my long-standing interests in experimental firing atmospheres, cross-cultural ceramic dialogues, and material research shaped by landscape and locality.”
Alana’s aim is to undertake rigorous experimentation into various materials and processes, alongside fostering a collaborative, inquisitive and porous sense of exchange and how these components would contribute to the strength of Aotearoa’s ceramic community.
