Visiting the Kilns
Are you open during the holidays?
Our Shop and the Kilns opening hours are Thursday to Sunday, 10am - 4pm
We are able to arrange special tours and visit for groups outside of these times - please email us. TheKilnsAtTeHoro@gmail.com
Do you have a cafe?
At the moment we don’t have a place that offers refreshments however it is part of our future plans, and we generally offer light refreshments during events and exhibitions.
Do you have visitor parking and bike parking?
We have dedicated parking off Jim Winiata Way, this is well sign-posted. two of which are designated disabled parking bays.
We have dedicated parking for bike and cars at the main entrance to the Kilns. Cars turn to the left over the bridge and bikes to the right where you will find some bike racks by the bush entrance to the Kilns.
Do you have Eft-Pos ?
Security reasons we do NOT hold any cash on-site however have Eft-pos available for all your purchasing needs.
Are you child-friendly?
We are open to all, with special activities for children and families during major school holiday.
Are dogs allowed to visit the Kilns?
The Kilns site has protected heritage native bush and we are controlling pests, so no, we ask that you and your family come however your dog will need to remain at home.
Can I access the site in my wheelchair?
Yes - please come to the first gate where you will find a buzzer to alert us you are there. We can then open the main gate for you at access the site.
The native bush area is in its original condition so not accessible for wheelchair uses, this includes our shop. We have accessible bathrooms.
If you have specific needs, it is advisable to contact us ahead of your visit.
Is there a guided tour of the Kilns?

The Shop
How many potters do you stock in the Shop?
We have limited space for potters work and stock pottery from a small group of potters and Residents. Not all of our stock is online.
How do you choose the potters for your Shop?
The potters are chosen by the Trustees of The Mirek Smíšek Arts Trust - a charitable trust, who discuss and choose the potters based on set criteria.
What type of clay is used in the majority of the pots?
Each potter has their own style of working and the clay used is varied.
Learning and Participation
Are there opportunities for children to play with clay during our visit to the Pottery?
We have started running dedicated days for families and children, however should you wish to arrange something special we are able to arrange special tours and visit for groups - please email us.

Do you run courses for professional potters?
Our Artists in Residence all run specialised workshops for potters. We advertise these online and each one reflects the work the Resident potter is doing while they are with us. These fill up quickly.
The studio
The Doreen Blumhardt Studio is where Mirek and now our Artists in Residence work while they are with us. If you would like to meet them and understand more about their working styles please contact TheKilnsAtTeHoro@gmail.com
Can I visit the Studio and see Resident Artist at work?
Our working Studio is not open to the public, however you can see inside the studio from the courtyard. If we have an artist Potter in Residence, they may be in the studio and may have time to speak to you.
